What’s going on?
Let me tell you about my New Ventures, I’m sooo excited to be sharing this with you.
I am very proud to be a new member of the Salon Sustainability Club.
I’ve upped my recycling game and Salon Sustainability is a pioneering new company that recycles up to 95% of salon waste.
Totally impressed with their pitch on The FHA zoom meeting in February, that I just couldn’t let this one go by. Their company ethos just matched mine in so many ways.
My Thoughts
Over the past couple of years sustainability has really come to the forefront in peoples minds. With the shocking coverage of plastic pollution in our oceans and rivers and the ongoing landfill issues and the effect of greenhouse gases they produce.
The Covid Pandemic just seems to have been the pinnacle of the problem and has highlighted and revealed the impact our lifestyles are having on our local environment and the whole Planet.
Have you noticed how much fresher the air feels, how much louder the dawn chorus sounds and how much calmer and tidier the streets have been since we’ve been in Lockdown?
I’ve been recycling at home for many years and I was so amazed when we first got the green bin at how quickly it filled up and the black bin never did.
So how chuffed was I to learn I could recycle nearly all of my work waste.
What happens to it?
♻️ Hair is made into booms to absorb oil and chemical spills or it goes into compost where it breaks down slowly releasing nitrogen to create a great fertiliser.
♻️ Foils, tint tubes and aerosols are cleaned up and infinitely recycled.
♻️ Plastics are ground down and re-formed in to new packaging.
♻️ Unused tint has the water content removed, purified and released back into the water system and the remaining sludge is incinerated to produce renewable energy as part of the ‘clean energy initiative’
Other benefits
And to top it all, 100% of the profits made from selling the waste for recycling goes directly to support the industry charity HABB, (Hair & Beauty Benevolent).
Salon sustainability also give business and employment to the Enham Trust, a leading UK disability charity committed to supporting disabled people to live, work and enjoy life.
So it’s a win-win situation all round wouldn’t you say?
Welcome to my Caring Hairdresser Co.
With love,
